From rainforest waterfalls to ridge-line views, these trails are perfect for anyone looking to add some adventure to their island stay. Whether you're catching the sunrise or chasing panoramic views, each hike offers something special.

Here’s your go-to guide to five amazing hikes near Waikiki, with everything you need to know—distance, trail length, difficulty, fees, parking, and how to get there by bus.

🏞️ 1. Diamond Head Crater Trail

One of the most popular hikes in Hawaii for a reason. After a steady climb, you're rewarded with stunning 360-degree views of Honolulu and the coast. Expect a mix of paved paths, stairs, and a tunnel before you reach the lookout.

  • Distance from Hostel: ~1.5 miles
  • Trail Length: 1.9 miles round trip
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Fees: $5 per person (entry) | $10 per vehicle (parking)
  • Parking: Tight—go early or use the bus
  • Bus Info: Take Bus #2 and walk about 15 minutes to the entrance

🌴 2. Manoa Falls Trail

A lush rainforest trail that leads to a 150-foot waterfall. It's an easy hike, but it can get muddy after rain—bring good shoes. Perfect for a quick nature escape without leaving the city behind.

  • Distance from Hostel: ~5.6 miles
  • Trail Length: 1.7 miles round trip
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Fees: $5 for parking

  • Difficulty: Moderate to hard
  • Fees: Free
  • Parking: Limited street parking—check signs

This ridge hike is a local favorite. It’s a leg-burner with lots of switchbacks and stairs, but the panoramic views at the top are some of the best on the island. Come prepared for a good workout.

🌿 4. Wa’ahila Ridge Trail

  • Distance from Hostel: ~3.5 miles
  • Trail Length: 2.4 miles round trip
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Fees: Free
  • Parking: Lot at the state recreation area
  • Bus Info: Bus #6 to St. Louis Drive, then short walk to the trailhead

A peaceful trail through forested ridge lines with views of Manoa Valley. It's quiet, scenic, and great for hikers looking to avoid crowds. A solid mid-length hike with rewarding views.
